SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 31
(By Senators Minear and Plymale)
Recognizing the accomplishments of West Virginia's young people who
are involved in the Youth Action Council and Saturday for
Service program.
Whereas, The future of West Virginia and the nation depends on
the commitment, preparation and vision of our young people to
uphold the values of our great democracy; and
Whereas, The experiences our young people have today will
create the citizens who will shape the future; and
Whereas, Our young people possess the talent, vision and
ability to help improve every school and community in West
Virginia; and
Whereas, The Youth Action Council, sponsored by the Department
of Education's Learn and Serve Program and led by the Ohio-West
Virginia YMCA's HI-Y Leadership Center, works to involve more young
people in volunteer service; and
Whereas, The Youth Action Council is increasing the number of
young people volunteering across West Virginia; and
Whereas, The Youth Action Council had declared April 17, 1999,
as "West Virginia Saturday for Service" to challenge the youth of
every community to carry out a volunteer service effort to improve
their community; and
Whereas, Saturday for Service is a commitment by West Virginia's youth to build not only a better state but to contribute
more to their community; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby recognizes the value and
accomplishments of all young people in West Virginia who are
involved in the Youth Action Council and the Saturday for Service
program; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Senate is proud of its young people
who willingly contribute through volunteer service to their
communities throughout West Virginia; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward
a copy of this resolution to the Youth Action Council and the
director of the Saturday for Service program.
